It will be the first major marine bridge and tunnel project in China, stretching a mammouth 
38km between Lantau island in the south west of Hong Kong across the mouth of the Pearl river delta to the island of Macau and Zhuhai on the Chinese mainland.The project has been on the drawing board for some time after first being discussed by politicians in the 1980s. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Advance Work Coordination Group was established in 2003 and the China’s Central Government and the regional governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau agreed finance last summer.
