Latin America’s coal consumption and use of mining equipment

Energy Tribune reported that the impressive growth of Latin America’s coal consumption and use of mining equipment in recent decades reflects three key factors like the region’s expanding economy, its failure to integrate neighboring electricity markets and a tendency to depend heavily on one power source which is coal - which requires mining equipment. There is no reason Latin America should be looking overseas for fuel supplies, since the region has an abundance of hydro potential, natural gas, uranium and oil. But coal, both imported and to a lesser extent, regionally mined, is playing an increasingly important role in the region’s energy sector and will continue to expand.
